i have driven my atlas over 6,000 miles and usually turn off the start or stop through the menu every time.. i noticed it doesn't always kick in so i tested it.. it's off in sport mode unless you switch the gear selector to "D" instead of "S." sport mode defaults to "S" but you can override it.. its also off if you are in comfort or custom mode and shift to "S" with the gear selector instead of staying in "D." in Custom i set everything to sport except exhaust and climate but it still defaults to "D" so start or stop stays on unless you pick "S".. there is a start or stop icon by the left gauge.. it lights up a few seconds after you stop with your foot on the brake.. if it's off a slash goes through the icon and the engine won't shut off.. if it's on the engine stops. it seems programmed to avoid shutting off too much during quick repeated stops.. i dont know about older models or eco mode.. this beats messing with the menu every time unless you hate sport mode and don't mind the engine stopping..

You know the stop & start function, you can deal with it if you do not press on the brakes super hard. Can you try that first and get back to me here? See if it works?

@PeevesAM599 i just got my atlas and found this helpful. i like sport mode but dont want the engine stopping all the time. switching to "S" with the gear selector works for me. the icon by the gauge is a nice touch to show if it's off. thanks for explaining it simply!

Yup the system avoids engine stops during quick stops, especially in sport or custom mode but it's a bit annoying that Custom defaults to D, anyway you've found a good workaround. It's better than messing with the menu every time, though.

there is a difference between how the system works depending on which drive mode you're in, that's how the car's set up so if you're in sport the system is off unless you switch in D. For comfort or custom, it's on unless youre in S

yup, idk why people like it, but for me, engine stopping at a quick stop is annoying

Right, the start/stop feature is turned off in Sport mode or when you shift to "S."It's designed that way so the engine doesn't turn off when you're driving sporty. You can also turn it off through the menu or with some aftermarket tools.I just keep an eye on the icon by the gauge to check,it's the simplest way
