Replace the engine or sell the car?

My neighbor faced an engine failure recently, they think this is because of the replacement of their fuel injectors. There's this reco for a blasting for carbon build up which was not done. And they're now left with around $19k engine replacement. do you think he should just sell the car or proceed with the engine replacement?

That $19k for an engine replacement is a steep hill to climb. Neglecting a blast clean can lead to big problems, but replacing the engine might throw good money after bad. Unless the car's value or sentimental worth justifies the cost, selling might be smarter.

Ugh, that's a tough one. $19k for a replacement is biting, but if the car's in a good shape, maybe it's worth fixing but if not nahh, just sell it. Either way, feels like a tough choice, we make tough decisions in life

Engine replacement is goddarn expensive. Sell it!
 
almost everyone will say that 19k is too much, but is it? If it's a newer model, a few years aold, getting a new engine means resetting the odometer and starting from scratch. Yes, he'll probably find a 2020 or later for that same money, but they'll be driven to hell and back. If it were me and I planned to drive the atlas for many years to come and it's relatively new, I'd go with the engine swap. Speaking of, I'd probably think about doing an LS swap :)
